Metta is unconditional loving friendliness towards all beings. Sanghamitta goes through the metta sutta, line by line, to draw out it's meaning.
April 25: Compassion
Compassion is the response of the heart to suffering. There is a wish help relieve the suffering which can be one's own or the suffering of another being. The Pali words for compassion are karuna and anukampa. And it's important to remember that compassion is empathy not sympathy.
